In spring… we start visiting Mallorcan beaches.
Mallorca is a small paradise in the middle of the Mediterranean, where the sun shines brightly most days of the year and with the ideal temperature for hiking, cycling, running, horse riding… But one of the most Mallorcan sports is going to the beach.
Traditionally, Mallorcans visit the coast from June to September, but gradually the season extends and the months of April and May, when we welcome spring, the sea begins to have a new appeal and becomes another attraction for weekends and holidays.
The island also boasts a varied geography, so you can find white sandy beaches with turquoise waters, cliffs suitable only for the most daring, and rocky and pebble coves where you can spend good times underwater observing the silent inhabitants that inhabit them.
At La Pérgola, we wanted to take a small tour of some of the most beautiful beaches on the island, to visit in the spring of 2024.
In Alcudia, Coll Baix beach
The cove of Coll Baix is an almost secret enclave located in the middle of a mountainous area. The steep cliffs and dense vegetation act as guardians of a place that is not easy to access. There is no paved road or signs of civilization, it is not suitable for people who suffer from vertigo, and you have to walk a good distance, with the risk of scratches from plants and insect bites, but... As almost always, effort has its reward and, in this case, it is the transparent and blue water and the marine life-filled seabed that awaits adventurers.
As you might expect, there are no facilities at Coll Baix beach, so you will have to bring everything you need, including food and drink. And of course, it will be your responsibility to return with the remains of everything so that your passage through this virgin area will be impossible to detect.
Caló des Moro in Santanyí
It is one of the most beautiful beaches in this area, and it is ideal to visit it when it is not too hot yet. Access is not too easy either, but upon arrival, the pines, water, and sand are more than enough reward.
The caló is an inlet of the sea in the form of a corridor that delights climbing enthusiasts, but also diving enthusiasts, as the rocks on the bottom are the habitat of many species of fish and marine animals.
We advise you to visit this beach when it is not yet high season, because in July and August it tends to fill up with people and, if you don't arrive early, it is impossible to find a place on the sand.
Cala Tuent, in the Tramuntana
If you suspected that the Sierra de la Tramuntana could not be one of the beachy areas of Mallorca… you were not wrong, however, every rule has its exception and, in this case, it is the caló of Cala Tuent. Once again, access is not easy and is made up of a narrow and winding path. Upon arrival, you will find a pebble beach, which is under the silent protection of Puig Major and is framed in a forest of pine and olive trees. If it's windy, it will be very windy here, and you may even forget that you are in Mallorca, as the landscape in no way resembles what you can find in typical tourist postcards.
