What to Do in Port d'Andratx in October
October is the month when Port d'Andratx goes back to the people who live there. The superyachts sail away, the terraces have room to spare and the light turns golden. Summer hasn't quite left: the sea is still warm, the afternoons are made for strolling, and the village fills its calendar with plans for locals. If you're coming this month, here's what you shouldn't miss.
The Sea Is Still Yours
October's first surprise is in the water. After a whole summer soaking up heat, the Mediterranean sits at around 22 °C, warmer than many swimming pools in northern Europe. The coves that demanded an early start in August can now be enjoyed mid-morning, with no rush. Camp de Mar and Sant Elm remain safe bets for a long swim. If you'd like to know why the sea holds its warmth for so long, we explain it in The Sea's Second Summer.
Market Wednesdays in Andratx
There's one fixed date in the week: the Wednesday market, from 8.30am to 2pm on the Passeig de Son Mas in Andratx. In October, seasonal produce appears, the atmosphere is more local and you can chat with the stallholders without queuing. It's the perfect excuse to stock your apartment fridge with Mallorcan produce. You'll find all the details in our guide to the weekly market in Andratx.
Fresh Art at CCA Andratx
CCA Andratx opened the month with new exhibitions. One brings together work by six Mexican artists; another, Wild Orchids & Other Mothers by Helga Schmidhuber, explores flora and resilience. They run until 27 February 2027, so they also make a good plan for a cloudy morning. We explain what makes this centre special in CCA Andratx: Contemporary Art at the Foot of the Tramuntana.
What's On in the Village
October also brings the Town Hall's Autumn Cultural Programme, with theatre, music and family activities running until November. A few dates for your diary:
- Until 16 October, a retrospective of the painter Juana Loreto Martorell.
- On Saturday 17, a charity concert for breast cancer in Port d'Andratx.
- On Sunday 18, from 10am to 1pm, the Món de colorins children's play area takes over Plaça d'Espanya in Andratx.
- To round off the month, a Halloween party at Son Mas Castle.
Check the full programme on Visit Andratx before making plans, as new activities are added throughout the month.
A Night for Looking Up
On the night of 21-22 October, the Orionids reach their peak: up to around twenty meteors an hour, debris left behind by Halley's Comet. This year the Moon lights up the first part of the night and sets at around 3am. To catch more shooting stars, head out after that and get away from the lights of the harbour. A blanket, something warm and a little patience are all you need.
Shorter Days, Longer Evenings
The clocks go back on Sunday 25 and the days draw in. It's time to bring your excursions forward and save the evening for a stroll around the harbour. October sunsets are among the most beautiful of the year. October also brings the odd shower: they arrive quickly and leave just as fast, and rarely spoil more than a morning. If you get a grey day, you'll find ideas in what to do in Mallorca when it rains. And if you'd rather stay put, our spa is the perfect refuge.
