Plans to do with children this Easter 2024
The little ones in the house are starting their Easter holidays, and as usual, they expect to be entertained by the adults. How do we face a week and a half of days without school?
By reading all the proposals that La Pérgola has for the holidays.
A classic outing: attending processions.
Easter processions are a must-see for children. Not all of them will endure the whole night, much less, but observing the brotherhoods, discovering the floats, feeling the beat of the drums and bands... it's an experience to discover, especially if it's sweetened by a candy or a sugared almond.
In all the Mallorcan towns, processions take place, although perhaps the most popular ones are those in Palma, which stands out especially for its ancient brotherhoods and for the Christ of Blood, an image that arouses devotion among attendees, or the one in Pollença.
In this city located on the other side of Mallorca, the "Davallament" takes place on stairs formed by 365 stone steps that aptly bear the name of Calvario, leading to a small 18th-century church dedicated to Our Lady of the Angels, patroness of the city.
On the night of Good Friday, the brotherhoods carry a Christ sculpture down the staircase, which they deposit inside the church, in complete silence and illuminated only by the light of torches.
Excursion to the monastery of Lluc
For the days following Easter, you can opt for one of the most popular excursions to the Sierra de Tramontana. It involves climbing halfway up Puig Major, approximately, to visit the monastery of Lluc, but also everything it hides in its surroundings.
If we approach the football field, we will discover a path that leads to Binifaldó, the refuge at the foot of the water source that bears its name. Following the path, you will find an old coal silo and a cave that bears the eerie name of "Cometa de los Muertos" (Comet of the Dead) but a beautiful place to visit.
Other very interesting points to visit in Lluc are its fantastic botanical garden or the astonishing stone formation that, for obvious reasons, is named "El Camello" (The Camel).
By train, to Sóller
Traveling by train for the sheer pleasure of it is a luxury. In Palma, very close to Plaza de España, is the old station of the Sóller train, with its wooden cars, seats from another era, and all the charm of this railway that travels the tracks at a more than acceptable speed, from Palma to the Sóller station.
Once arrived in this village, nestled in a valley between mountains, you can visit the most outstanding modernist buildings, stroll, and try a delicious orange juice from the village, or take a tram and reach the port to walk under the sun and enjoy the warm spring that has already arrived.
