Majorca is a paradise in winter too
The days shorten, temperature gets moderate, and the daylight gets a warmer and softer tone: Winter has come to Majorca, the ideal time to enjoy the joys and beauties this island offers beyond sun-and-beach…
Walking along the beach on your own
… although that doesn’t mean giving up beaches completely. Walking along one of Majorca’s kilometric sand beaches in winter stimulates the senses as well as helps you exercise the muscles. The sound of the waves, the scent of the sea, the light – everything feels very different from summer- closer to nature; and we enjoy it almost exclusively.
Riding around the island on a bike
Cyclists from all around the world come to Majorca throughout the year; however, the ideal time to ride around the Island is undoubtedly in the less warm months. At Puerto de Andratx, as a starting point, we have the chance to face challenging routes around Tramuntana mountain chain, or to walk along the coastal roads. Our different training routes and packs of Hotel Pérgola offer the best options for all kinds of cyclists, from the most ‘pro’ to friends groups who might just want to enjoy themselves.
Enjoying the gastronomy
Walking along the beaches, riding around Majorca on a bike, or going for a hike around the marvelous Tramuntana mountain chain, for instance, and then to La Trapa or to Castell d’Alaró… so much exercise whets your appetite. No problem! Because Majorca is known and appreciated for its gastronomy, which offers a wide range of types of food: from the traditional Island cuisine –the Majorca Soups or a tasty Arros Brut are some of the traditional winter meals; to the lighthearted bistro-style cuisine and a wide variety of restaurants with specialties from all over the world and the culinary wonders that new restaurants in the Island, with an aggregate of 10 Michelin starts, serve.
While in summer what we fancy the most is to enjoy a delicious lunch or dinner beside the sea, in winter we are also attracted by the venues of the inland part of the island. We get to choose among restaurants located in the most central villages of Majorca, which serve specialties such as “porcella” in a wood-fired oven; traditional “Cellers”, where we can eat traditional dishes of the cuisine of the Island; or restaurants that delight us with international, sophisticated creations. Majorca is definitely a culinary paradise, also and specially in winter.
Fairs and markets with seasonal products
Winter is the best season to enjoy some of the most traditional and distinctive products of Majorca. Many of which have their own food fairs, such as pepper, olives and olive oil, Sa Pobla’s rice, almond milk… and many more. By walking around the food markets that are set every week on different places around the Island, you can admire an astonishing abundance of tasty oranges, clementines and tangerines. The citric skin smell is one of the most traditional smells in Majorcan winter.
