Magical Places in the Heart of the Tramontana Mountains
Twelve years ago, the Tramontana Mountains were declared a UNESCO World Heritage site, and yet both locals and visitors continue to be enthralled by the enchanting corners and magical places that the heart of these mountains holds. Coves, trails, viewpoints, churches, restaurants... they appear scattered among the mountains like little private paradises for those who discover them.
La Calobra, the Beach of Music
La Calobra is a small beach located in the municipality of Escorca, a natural outlet of the Pareis Torrent, nestled between two cliffs. Getting there is challenging, but it's worth it. Crystal-clear waters, unspoiled space, rugged mountains... make it one of the most famous beaches on the northern coast of Mallorca.
As a tradition for over 50 years, the beach serves as the natural stage for a choral concert held at the beginning of summer. The exceptional acoustics provided by the stone walls that surround it make the experience unparalleled.
Fornalutx, Blending with the Tramontana
This small mountain village has shown that blending landscape and architecture is possible. It used to be an Arab farmstead, which is reflected not only in its name but also in the layout of its streets. Fornalutx has always been closely connected to the town of Sóller, to the extent that it was part of it for some time. After gaining independence from Sóller, the inhabitants of Fornalutx have devoted all their efforts to opening to tourism and maintaining a historical center that is as well-preserved and beautiful as possible.
Must-see attractions include the town hall, the 17th-century defense tower, and the 12th-century parish church. Fornalutx is also the starting point for various excursions, such as the Barranc de Biniaraix hike.
Biniaraix, Cultural Heritage Site
Biniaraix is a small gem located in the Valley of Sóller, in the heart of the Tramontana Mountains. This hamlet, known as a "llogaret," was declared a Cultural Heritage Site by the Consell de Mallorca in 2010, and it is a must-visit for hikers and nature lovers. The Barranc de Biniaraix stands out, serving as the starting point for several hiking routes. The excursion through the ravine is challenging but undoubtedly worth it for the breathtaking views it offers.
Another Small Hamlet: Llucalcari
Between Deià and Sóller lies the small hamlet of Llucalcari, with just under ten inhabitants. It has around fifteen houses and a beautiful 18th-century chapel.
Llucalcari is particularly popular during the summer months, especially the area of Es Canyaret, a nudist cove where the mud has beneficial properties for the skin. It is not uncommon to see people covered in gray and brown mud, drying their bodies under the sun until the mixture cracks, and then returning to the water to rinse off the remains of this unique mud therapy. Those who try it claim that the result is smooth, hydrated skin, free of impurities, and a state of total relaxation thanks to the communion experienced in nature.
In this stone cove, there is also a small freshwater spring and marvelous views.
