Discovering S'Arracó
Located in the southwest of the island very close to Port Andratx, this small village will enchant all nature lovers. The name says it all: "the corner", surrounded by mountains and forests, it is a much sought destination for international residents looking for tranquility and a break from the cosmopolitan city. It is undoubtedly a village with a great rustic charm formed by Majorcan stone houses and romantic streets.
It should be noted that despite its small size, it hides a great history. Legend goes that this town was a hidden base for bandits and also experienced pirate attacks on the neighbouring island Dragonera. At that time it was very popular among French and national artists, and has elements of modernist architecture that make this town a welcoming place. Despite having few inhabitants, there are many things to do and see in S'arracó, and these are our recommendations:
Visit the island of Sa Dragonera
This natural park located in the west of the island is a real jewel for nature that offers panoramic views of the Mediterranean Sea and the Serra de Tramuntana, a world heritage site. Access to the island can only be made by boat, which frequently departs from the port of Sant Elm, with a journey time of approximately 15 minutes. From S'Arracó there is a 10-minute drive, so it is perfect if you are travelling with children. You will be able to observe and discover its extensive autochthonous fauna, as well as its famous "dragons" and it is, without a doubt, a perfect trip.
Places of interest
S'Arracó has the Church of Sant Crist, which appears in the typical stamp of the postcard of S'Arracó. Built in 1804 by Antonio Ferrandell Verí, it stands out with an impressive tower on the outside with pointed windows and rectory. Located in the village square, it was built with very simple details and has four arches inside, as well as three side chapels and a Baroque altarpiece. A must-see!
Hiking and cycling
As mentioned on other occasions, the Tramuntana mountain range offers countless routes and options for hiking, trekking or cycling. This village is the starting point for a well-known hiking route among sportsmen and women, the Sa Paret des Moro route from S'Arracó. With a total route of 14 kilometres and a duration of approximately 5 to 6 hours, it is divided between semi-rustic areas, woods, and large plots, so it is necessary to wear appropriate footwear and clothing. It is a very pleasant route that offers beautiful views, with maze sections of roads and an impressive nature, totally recommendable!
Festivities and markets
As in all the villages on the island, S'Arracó has a small weekly market which is held every Saturday morning in the village square. There you can find handcrafted products, plants and flowers, clothes and footwear and enjoy the good weather in the terraces of the bars. The village "fiestas" are held every year at the end of August and include cultural activities, sports and street festivals in honour of San Agustin.
Due to the few inhabitants and few accommodations offered in S'Arracó, it is advisable to book a hotel or aparthotel nearby to spend the night. The village is located very close to the well-known Port Andratx where you can find various options for accommodation, whether for a trip with a family or a couple, here you can find everything you need.
