Discovering Estellencs
Known as the least populated village on the island, this small wonder combines sea and mountain to perfection. At the foot of the Serra de Tramuntana, this charming village offers a beautiful landscape and the most beautiful views of the entire Mediterranean. There is a total journey of 25 minutes by car from Andratx, where you will pass through the island's most curved roads and discover the nature offered by this Mediterranean jewel.
According to legend, the name of the village is related to the multitude of stars that can be seen at night, and specifically the name means "valley of the stars". Due to bad road connections in the past, this preciousness has not suffered from mass tourism like other regions of Mallorca and will offer you a unique stay.
Do you want to relax from the capital? Here you can wander through its cobblestone streets, magical coves and the most authentic corners you have ever seen before. Despite its barely 300 inhabitants it has popular fairs and annual events, hiking trails to discover the Serra de Tramuntana and much more. These are some of the places we recommend to visit:
- Estellencs Cove
It's a small rocky cove with crystal clear blue waters that also serves as a fishing port. It is advisable to wear footwear as the cove is not made of sand and with it you will avoid slipping on the rocks. It is very small so you will not see a crowd of people, and has a typical beach bar that will serve you drinks and simple food. From that same cove you can access a cave where you will cross rustic bungalows decorated with bougainvilleas, vegetables and fruits.
- Wine and Cheese Fair
Is there a better combination than wine with cheese? This famous fair is held on the first of May each year where you can enjoy and taste the different varieties of cheeses and local wines in the town square. One of the most outstanding wines is Malvasía, a sweet wine that is cultivated in front of the sea in the Serra de Tramuntana and has a very peculiar taste, which is why it is distinguished from other wines. The fair is complemented with other products such as jam, oils and some typical Majorcan cultures. A true pleasure for the palate!
- Sightseeing routes
There is no doubt that the Serra de Tramuntana offers us the best trekking routes in all the Balearic Islands. One of the most popular is the Puig de Galatzó, where you can reach the highest point in the region and is considered of high difficulty. It has a total distance of 11 kilometres and you will be able to observe the abundant nature and beautiful views of the landscape that will allow you to see almost the whole island. The first of August of each year a night excursion is organized in the village that leaves from the town square at 01:30 and returns early in the morning. It is a unique experience where you will be able to watch the stars as you have never done before.
- Restaurants
Is there anything better than eating with sea views? In spite of the few inhabitants, Estellencs has several restaurants with a fairly simple menu but with sea views that no other restaurant will be able to offer you. We recommend a stop at the Es Grau restaurant, an establishment that opened its doors in 1966 and has a spectacular terrace where you can enjoy wonderful views of the sea and mountains. Whether it's a good seafood paella, or fresh pasta, the views won't disappoint you!
