Discovering Sóller
The Valley of Gold.
This is the name given to the orange valley that accompanies you on your descent until you reach one of Mallorca's most beautiful villages: Sóller. A village with the scent of citrus fruits, the sea and modern life. A place that we can travel in a train of wood, magic and tradition.
Sóller is a must for those who want to discover the heart of Mallorca.
The village is located in the northwest of the island. Its (wonderful) differences range from its accent dancing between its mouths to its traditions based on courageous women and Saracen pirates.
During the 19th century, the port became a window to the world. From there, many Sinaric people emigrated to France. When they returned, they invested their profits to build some of the city's most emblematic modernist buildings.
Since the 1990s, a tunnel in the Sierra de Alfabia has made it easier to reach the village than thirty years ago, when the (almost) impossible curves of the Coll de Sóller were the main alternative.
But for those who don't want to go there by car, there is a much more special option: the train to Sóller.
An old wooden railway that connects the heart of Sóller with the Plaza de España of Palma and was inaugurated in 1912. 28 kilometres, 13 tunnels and some of the island's most beautiful landscapes make it a unique experience for locals and visitors alike.
The railway, a beautiful tram, the emblematic Plaza de la Constitución, the Botanical Garden, an Art Nouveau building called Can Prunera, the gastronomy between oranges, olives and shrimps, the Firó, its flea market, the Habaneras, which on summer nights sound from Es Repic beach and above all its inhabitants.
Sóller is a city that captivates and hypnotizes everyone.
