An Adventure with Kids: Galatzó Reserve
There is a place in Mallorca where you can see brown bears, emus, fallow deer, wild donkeys, goats, ostriches, martens, fallow deer, genets, peacocks, geese, and a wide variety of ducks. They don't live in cages - well, the bear family has a fenced enclosure - but they're not entirely in the wild either. They enjoy a freedom they couldn't experience anywhere else, and most of them have been rescued from a past they didn't deserve.
It's an area of lush beauty, almost wild vegetation, and it offers two more attractions: caves and waterfalls. Galatzó Reserve, known as Reserva Park, has become a reference point for a day of adventure and excitement with children. But even those who stopped being children a long time ago also have a great time here.
The reserve covers an area of two and a half million square meters, and its construction dates to 1986. The Consell Insular de Mallorca declared the space as being of public utility and social interest on August 3, 1992. It was inaugurated as such in November of that same year.
The Galatzó Reserve
Mount Galatzó was once a hiding place for the feared Comte Mal, whose legend we explored here. Kinder stories lead visitors to the foot of Puig, which, besides being the residence of the cruel count, was also a hiding place for the last surviving Muslims after the Christian conquest.
Today, it is a place to enjoy unique vegetation, with a rugged landscape that rises from 200 meters above sea level to 1026 meters at its peak. Botany enthusiasts can obtain a catalog of all the native species of interest, which is sold at the entrance.
The tour takes about an hour, covers three and a half kilometers, and follows old charcoal burner paths. It's a short, very easy hike with designated routes for young children. Despite this, it is advisable to wear comfortable clothing and footwear.
Activities and Adventure in Reserva Park
The journey through the reserve is a marvel. It alternates between spaces for observing animals, areas with waterfalls and pools, a few small inclines, many descents, and spectacular vegetation.
At the end of the walk, there is an area with tables and barbecues where you can eat, recharge your energy, and enjoy the raptor show, which is truly spectacular.
But here, you can also find the world's longest zipline, where you can test your adventurous spirit and adrenaline. This attraction is part of the zipline circuit, suitable for almost all ages. You can also enjoy the bridge circuit, which is a bit shorter and can be traversed calmly by those who suffer from vertigo since it is much lower than the first one.
Another attraction of the reserve is its semi-natural pools and swimming areas where, in good weather, you can take a refreshing dip. A unique experience to be had in the heart of the Tramontana Mountain range.
